About Freemasonry - Introduction

FREEMASONRY is a secular fraternal organisation, traditionally open only to men. It promulgates the principles of morality and seeks to advance the practice of brotherly love and charitable action among all persons – not simply among Masons. It is not a religion; but requires its members to believe in the existence of a ‘Supreme Being’. The name of that Being, the scripture in which it is revealed, and the form in which It is to be worshipped is entirely the business of the individual Mason; political and sectarian religious discussion is forbidden at Masonic gatherings.

Whilst the primary purpose of this site is to convey information about Freemasonry in the Province of East Kent, it is acknowledged that there will be visitors to this site seeking information about Freemasonry in general. It is hoped that this information can be made available by links to primary sites.

To learn more about Freemasonry in general, a full explanation, together with answers to questions most frequently asked, will be found under the heading 'What is Freemasonry?' on the website of the United Grand Lodge of England.

Most of the Provinces of the United Grand Lodge of England and many of the Districts, et cetera, overseas, have websites; to view any of these, see ‘Provinces’ and ‘Districts & Groups’. Also, for other Constitutions recognised by the United Grand Lodge of England, see ‘Foreign Grand Lodges’.

There are numerous Masonic magazines. In this Province we take pride in our magazine, 'The Provincial', which is published three times a year. The official magazine of UGLE is 'Freemasonry Today'.
