Third Provincial Grand Principal
Excellent Companion Brian Robert Barden PAGDC.
Born in Dover on 25th November 1938, attended St Bart's and Astor Schools
followed by an apprenticeship as a Vehicle Mechanic at a local garage. Married
to Evelyn, a Dover girl in November 1959, they have a daughter and two
grandchildren. Completed two years National Service 1960 - 1962 and returned
to working in the garage. A job move took him to Poole in Dorset June 1967,
and subsequently moved to Portsmouth in 1970 to function as its Service
Manager.
Inter Company transfer to a newly formed Heating/Ventilation Energy Management
Company in 1980 based at the London Office created the opportunity to return
to Kent where he settled in Maidstone. Brian took early retirement in July
1997.
Masonic Background
Initiated into the Cathedral Lodge Portsmouth No.7753 Dec 1974, WM 1982 with
appointment and promotion in the Province of Hants & I of White to PPrSGD 1990
and PPrJGW in 1999. Currently Lodge Organist.
Exalted into Wayfarers Chapter No. 5740 Cosham in May 1977. (Resigned 1981)
On returning to Kent
Joining Member of the Bearsted Chapter No. 6069 in 1981, MEZ Sept 1986. With
appointment to PPrGSoj 1992, Promotion to PrGwdB 1999. Appointment to Grand
Chapter Rank PAGDC 2002.
Served in the offices of ADC, DC, Scribe E and currently Organist.
Joining Member of the Per Mare Per Terram Chapter No. 3609 Jan 1999. Scribe E
April 1999 to 2003.
Joining Member of the Fleur de Lis Lodge No. 8969 in 1983, WM 1991 currently
Lodge Organist. Appointed PrAGDC 1999, Promoted to PrGReg 2005 and appointed
to Grand Rank, PAGDC 2005.
Joining Member of the Rochester Castle Lodge No.9260 Nov 1999. Lodge Secretary
Nov 1999 to 2005.
Having started, rather late in life, his enthusiasm and interest in achieving
an acceptable standard of performance on the organ has been rewarded with the
following:
Accorded Honorary Membership in Swakely Lodge No. 6634 and Chillington Manor
Lodge No. 4649. Serving the office of Organist in each.
Honorary Organist in Per Mare Per Terram Lodge No. 3609, Belvidere Lodge and
Chapter No. 503, Bearsted Lodge No.6069 and Radiant Star Lodge No. 8967 (West
Kent) and Guest Organist for the East Kent Provincial Grand Stewards Chapter
No.5866.
Holds office in Mark and Mariners, Knight Templar and Knight Templar Priests,
Rose Croix, Red Cross, Royal and Select Masters and Royal Order of Scotland.
