Personal
Brian was born in Shropshire in 1944. He spent the first half of his schooling in Darjeeling 7500 feet up in the Himalayas, in India, and the second half at Shooters Hill Grammar School in London. After completing a two-year Higher National Diploma at the London College of Printing and Design, he started a printing and publishing company in London and then moved with his business to Dover in 1966, where he has remained ever since. He sold most of his business interests in 2009. Brian is married to Julie and he has one son, David, (who is now running the publishing business) and a granddaughter Bethany.
Masonic
Brian’s was initiated into the Empress Lodge No.7939 (West Kent) in 1972. He joined the Military Jubilee
Lodge No. 2195 in Dover in 1974, became Master in 1982 and Director of Ceremonies in 1993.
He was exalted in the Military Jubilee Chapter and became First Principal in 1992.
He was Chairman of the Dover Masonic Hall Co. Ltd. for 11 years.
Brian was a founding member of the Cornwallis Lodge of Installed Masters No. 9515 in 1993. He is also a
member of the East Kent Masters Lodge No. 3931, the Kent Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge 5866 and the
East Kent Provincial Grand Stewards Chapter.
In Provincial Grand Lodge, Brian was appointed as a Steward in 1988, promoted to Past Senior Deacon in
1991, Past Superintendent of Works in 1997, Junior Warden in 2000 and as an Assistant Provincial Grand
Master in 2007.
In the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter, Brian was appointed as a Steward in 1998 and promoted to
Past Assistant Director of Ceremonies in 2004.
In Grand Rank Brian was appointed as a Past Assistant Director of Ceremonies in the Craft in 2004 and
promoted to Past Senior Deacon and in 2008 and in the Chapter as a Past Standard Bearer in 2007.
Upon his appointment as an Assistant Provincial Grand Master Brian was given special responsibility
for Public Relations and Communications. This proved to be a really interesting brief and in particular,
with his team, involved putting together the successful Provincial Web Site.
In September 2011 Brian was given overall responsibility for all matters connected with Charity in the
Province, including the 2014 Festival.
Outside Freemasonry
One of Brian’s hobbies is flying light aircraft. He has held a Private Pilots Licence with full
instrument rating since 1978 and has had shares in a number of single and twin engine aeroplanes. He has
also made a study of aviation meteorology.
He also enjoys walking. With his son David he has walked the Pennine Way (approx. 275 miles) and
Hadrians Wall (90 miles) and elsewhere, much in aid of The Teenage Cancer Trust. In September 2011
he walked 68 miles along the Cornish Coastal Path in aid of the same charity. He also enjoys sailing
and river cruising
