Executive Officers

Provincial Grand Secretary

Worshipful Bro. Christopher Leslie Saville

Personal

Chris was born in June 1947 (a baby boomer!) at the Central Middlesex Hospital. His mother was a 'Clippie' and his father a sergeant in the Royal Fusiliers. Chris's early life was spent, in military fashion, never staying in one place for more than three years.

Early schooling was at Harlesden Primary School in North West London (long enough to make Chris a life long Arsenal supporter!) and Montague Road Primary School in Edmonton. By this time Chris's father was a local shopkeeper and Chris stayed in Edmonton for six years. Secondary school was at Latymer Grammar School, Enfield, passing the usual scientific based 'O' levels. At the end of his first year of 'A' levels the family moved to Kingsdown near Deal. Chris attended Dover Grammar School but several bouts of illness resulted in his leaving school with nothing to show.

A confirmed bachelor by the age of thirty, Chris was best man to his best friend, met the chief bridesmaid, Gill, and married her in 1980. They have not been blessed with children. Chris and Gill moved to Great Mongeham, where he now lives, in 1993.

Professional

Chris worked as a laboratory technician at Pfizer, an ordering clerk for the National Coal Board, a counter clerk at the Post Office and for 15 years as a Foreign Exchange Cashier for Townsend (P&O) Car Ferries. In 1987, following three years of Open University courses, Chris secured a European Ferries' Bursary to complete a degree at Buckingham University, where he gained an Upper Second Class Honours Batchelor of Science Degree in Computer Science with Applicable Mathematics.

Chris worked in the IT department of P&O Ferries as an analyst from 1990, gradually gaining promotion to Project Leader in charge of all non navigational onboard I.T. systems out of Dover and central stock systems group wide. He was heavily involved in designing and implementing P&O systems for the duty paid era and the millennium.

In 2000, aged 52, Chris made the 'Good Life' decision but in 2003 became Sub-postmaster of the local village Post Office until its enforced closure in early 2008.

Masonic

Initiated in The Trinity Mariners' Lodge number 8406, on 10th June 1995, his 48th birthday. He served as Master for two years, in 2000 and 2001. After one meeting as IPM, he became D.C., in which office he continues.

He was appointed a Provincial Steward in 2004, Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2008, Provincial Deputy Grand Secretary in 2009 and Provincial Grand Secretary in 2010, since when he has suddenly become popular at the bar after meetings.

He is a member of The Kent Provincial Grand Stewards' Lodge No. 5866 and Snar Gate Lodge No. 6770 and Cornwallis Lodge of Installed Masters No. 9515.

He was exalted into Radnor Chapter in 2001 and became First Principal in 2008.

Beyond the Craft he has joined the Mark.

Interests

Chris is the secretary for the local Bar Billiards League and a past secretary of the County Bar Billiards Association. He has been an officer in several local clubs and associations. He is a member of the patients' panel in one of the large local surgeries and has collected thousands of pounds for the RNLI.

Chris enjoys playing cue games, principally the old pub sport of Bar Billiards in which he has been County champion many times, National Pairs champion twice, Captain of the National Pub Team Champions twice, National Over 50's champion twice and National Singles Runner-up.

Chris enjoys hill walking (having ascended both Sca Fell Pike and Snowdon), cycling and is fascinated by steam trains and classic motorcycles. His holidays are normally organized around walking/riding in unspoilt hilly areas, preferably with a preserved steam line within reach and meeting new people over a glass of real ale. He also played cricket for many years and kept wicket until he retired at 58.

He owns classic BSA motor cycles, attending and riding in several rallies each year including the Isle of Man and Colombres in Spain. In 2009 he completed an off-road Himalayan trek on an Indian Royal Enfield, riding 1000 miles in the high Himalayas, to an altitude of 17,000ft, through valleys that have been open to foreigners only in the last few years.

Chris, voluntarily, designs and prints paperwork for several local and national associations. He has designed and runs several websites, most recently that for the Masonic Province of East Kent and the E.K.P.C.A.

Chris is a keen home handyman at everything from carpentry and plumbing to electrical work and has carried out extensive home improvements.
