Educated in Dover, Peter joined the building industry as a trainee prior to being conscripted into the Royal Army Medical Corps, serving with specialised units of the Commonwealth Forces in the Far East and Malaya in particular. On returning home joined a Canadian construction company, with extensive interests throughout North America, being appointed Director of European Operations with responsibility for development both throughout Europe and Southern Africa, retiring in 1983.

Frustrated with little to do, Peter joined the National Health Service in 1985, working for the improvement of services for the mentally disabled, retiring in 1998.

Served as a member of the Local Review Committee and Home Office Parole Board, as well as Chairman Governor of two local schools.

Married Florence in 1959, she being a specialist authority in Occupational Health to the mining industry. A good deal of time is spent in Ireland in the pursuit of the ultimate fly-fishing tale, a keen horticulturist.

Holder of senior rank in several other Masonic Orders, predominately in the equivalent role of a Director of Ceremonies.
