Provincial Grand Treasurer
Worshipful Bro. John Cooper

I was born in 1944 and like most wartime babies from Dover I was actually born
in Pembury returning to Dover two weeks later where I have spent the rest of
my life. I was educated at Dover Grammar School for Boys. On leaving school I
trained as a Chartered Accountant and was accepted as a member of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in April 1967 and
about ten years later I progressed to becoming a Fellow of that body.
I joined Reeves + Neylan, a local firm of Chartered Accountants, in 1968 and
became a Partner in 1972. I have remained with that firm although from April
2007 I effectively retired and now only do a small amount of consultancy work.
I was initiated into Pharos Lodge No 6967 in April 1972 which lodge was at
that time the School lodge for Dover Grammar School Boys. I became Master in
1980 since which date I have held office as Director of Ceremonies (twice),
Secretary (currently and once before) and Treasurer.
I was first appointed to Provincial Office as Past Junior Grand Deacon in 1988
and then promoted to the office of Past Provincial Grand Registrar and further
promoted in 2006 to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden.
I became a member of Corinthian Chapter No. 1208 in 2007.
I am very much involved in the administration of the Dover Masonic Hall
Company Limited and have been Company Secretary and Treasurer for over 30
years. I have recently been co-opted onto the Management Committee of East
Kent Provincial Charities Association.
I have been happily married to my wife, Libby, for over 40 years and we have
four daughters.
Outside of freemasonry my main interest is education and I have been a
Governor at Dover Grammar School for Girls for over 15 years. I am the
Chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee and also the Chairman
of the Performance Management Committee and in addition sit on a number of
committees. I am also the Managing Trustee of a Charity which provides funding
to School children in Kent to assist with travel which furthers their
education.
I enjoy reading and am now making up for not having read sufficiently during
my younger years. My wife and I share interests in:
• History, particularly ancient history and very much enjoy visits to
archaeological sites.
• Bird watching.
• Walking, particularly in the Yorkshire Dales, the French Alps and French
coastal footpaths.
• Cycling, particularly in the French countryside.
