MID KENT MASTERS' CELEBRATES CENTENARY

Another Successful Year

On alternate years the stand display is organised by the East and West Kent Provinces. The Provincial Information Officer for West Kent, W.Bro. Charles Marchant SGD, APGM, commented “Throughout all three days, we had a steady stream of visitors, many of them Masons, who expressed their support and appreciation for what we were doing. The non-Masons went away with a better understanding of the aims and ideals of the Craft and a number were sufficiently impressed to consider making further enquires with a view to membership of the Order. Of course the principal aim of our stand was to demonstrate that Freemasonry is not a secret furtive organisation, but one which has a great deal to offer and one in which we can take pride”

For the fifth consecutive year Kent Freemasons scored a success with their stand at the annual Kent Show at Detling. The event which took place over the 14th, 15th and 16th of July attracted large crowds and a huge interest in our stand.

East Kent’s Provincial Information Officer, W.Bro. Michael Lewis DL. PJGD added “The Kent Show provides Kent Freemasonry with an excellent opportunity to be visible to the Kent community, many times we hear comment such as ‘I thought you were supposed to be a secret’, which demonstrates that we are breaking down the most popular misconception, that we are a secret organisation. Whilst It is impossible to measure the success of the stand, we are convinced it works. Each year we hand out thousands of leaflets.
Many recipients start to read the leaflet even before they’ve left the stand and none get thrown away. Just being there and connecting wih the public, our own members and members of other provinces is extremely important”.

Michael added. “The Show is a major element in our communication and awareness strategy which is to provide a consistent message about Freemasonry. Our stand enables us to reach our target market, create a positive awareness of Freemasonry and the values it promotes to the community. As usual we had an excellent turn out of helpers from the communication teams and senior brethren of both Provinces, Our own Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. Michael Robin Bailey, never misses a show. Every year he helps on the Stand, hands out leaflets and responds to questions from the public. This year we receive some excellent membership enquires from younger men who wished to know more about us and our work – Our presence at the Kent Show is an undoubted success on more than one level, and long may it continue to be so.

The Kent Stand is ideally situated in the picnic area immediate facing the band area. Every year the popular ‘Casablanca Steps’ group plays at regular intervals throughout the day. Regular helpers on our stand feel they now know the group’s act better than they do!
