Sittingbourne

The grey skies and drizzle dissipated at the appointed hour for the start of the Remembrance Day Service at Sittingbourne War Memorial in Central Avenue. A larger number than previous years turned out both for the parade and as spectators. The Sittingbourne Masonic Centre wreath with the Province of East Kent logo was laid by W.Bro. Peter Towlson LGR, a World War 2 veteran who served with the Fleet Air Arm. He may be seen in the photograph in the foreground along side a lamppost, sporting a healthy head of white hair.

Hythe

On Sunday 11th November, 15 members of the Valley of Elham Lodge No 6649 assembled at the War Memorial in Elham together with village church members, local organisations and the Elham British Legion contingent to lay poppy wreaths. The Worshipful Master –W.Bro David Gray laid the Valley of Elham Lodge’s wreath, complete with the Provincial centrepiece, to the memory of the Freemasons of East Kent, and departed friends and family members. After the ceremony the brethren, together their wives and partners retired to W.Bro David Addington’s home in the village where David’s wife Aileen produced coffee and biscuits for us all. At 12.30pm we then reassembled at Paul’s restaurant in Folkestone and enjoyed a three course Sunday carvery luncheon together.
