WHAT A SONG AND DANCE!

Nine months of careful planning by the Board of Provincial Grand Stewards came to fruition on Saturday 23rd June on the occasion of the annual Provincial Summer Ball at the Winter Gardens, Margate. The evening was blessed with good weather (a rarity in this wet summer) enabling guests to benefit from the sea air as well as enjoying the very happy atmosphere in the Main Hall.

Accompanied by his wife Sandra, the Provincial Grand Master RWBro Michael Bailey, who is currently President of The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI), led the 556 East Kent Freemasons and their wives and guests, in this premier event in the Provincial calendar. The Ball was further honoured by the presence of thirty seven Friends of the RMBI including the Chairman WBro Chris Caine, the President Elect RWBro Jonathan Winpenny, and RWBro Russell Race, along with their wives, partners and guests. During dinner RWBro Bailey was pleased to present a cheque for £30,000 to the Friends of the RMBI which included a £5,000 donation from this Province.

In addition to the ever popular and successful tombola, revellers were also invited to join in a special raffle for a gallon of whisky kindly donated to the event by WBro Kevin Stones and his wife Yvonne. As always, the emphasis of the evening was enjoyment and fun, a point stressed by the Provincial Grand Master in his notes to the menu programme.

WBro Colin "Jake" Jackson and members of his band "Maize" entertained diners with some trio jazz during the meal, and were later supported by "The Metronomes" steel band. Once the coffee cups had been cleared away, dancing began gently with music from the steel band, and later the dynamic sounds of "Maize" had everybody on the dance floor.

The Board of Provincial Grand Stewards who organised the successful event were WBros Tom Sutton (Chairman), Anthony Lucas and Steve Davies (Secretaries), David Barden (Treasurer), Peter Chun, David Cocks, Ralph Craig, Philip Martin, Roger Pettit, Mark Richards, and Andrew Spiers.
