WE'RE ONLY HERE FOR THE BEAR!

On a glorious sunny August Bank Holiday Sunday, 44 walkers completed the 9 mile walk along the River Medway from Tonbridge to Yalding, raising over £4,500 in sponsorship for the Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) appeal. The river walk was organised by WBro John Keeley (who celebrated his 60th Birthday on the same day) and the TLC committee members. This is the second year that the walk has taken place and the amount of money raised more than doubled that raised previously. Special thanks go to W. Bro Ray Stone who single handedly raised £1000.

Dressed in yellow T shirts bearing the well known teddy logo the 44 enthusiastic participants completed the 9 mile walk in between 2 and 3 hours. The walk ended at Tea Pot Island, Yalding where WBro John, ably assisted by the TLC Committee, family and friends, had organised a Marquee with a Hog Roast BBQ, bar and music.

The walk was well supported from all around the Province, and no less than 3 Assistant Provincial Grand Masters took part, WBro John Grumbridge, WBro Pat Thomas and W Bro Charles Boxer, seen photographed just after completing the walk. W. Bro Tony Denne, the Provincial Grand Charity Steward, also completed the walk with his daughter in support to keep him going.

WBro Keeley said, “The event has again been a great success and the money raised will enable the appeal to keep up a regular supply of teddy bears to the A&E units in East Kent. I hope that even more people take part in the walk next year”.

The total amount raised, including proceeds from the bar and raffle, exceeded £5,500

The event provided an ideal opportunity for the presentation of a cheque for £1750 by WBro Ian Manklow, Worshipful Master of Monckton Lodge No.9236, to Lynn Hyder, County Fundraiser for The Kent Air Ambulance. Monckton is WBro Keeley's Lodge, and the money had been raised from fund raising events during the year, including the Ladies festival.
