A full room of Secretaries and Scribes E. assembled on a
Saturday morning in November at the Franklin Rooms in Gillingham to hear about
a number of administrative matters effecting Lodges and Chapters in the
Province of East Kent. The Seminar had been organised by the East Kent
Scriveners Lodge No. 9622 and their Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Roger Croucher,
chaired the occasion.
First up was the Provincial Grand Secretary, W. Bro. Roger Odd, who gave an
introduction especially for new officers in those positions, of the role and
duties of a Lodge Secretary or Chapter Scribe E. He emphasised the point of
keeping on top of the secretarial duties, contacting the Provincial Office in
case of any difficulty and above all enjoying the time in that particular
role.
The Provincial Assistant Grand Secretary, W. Bro. Lyndon Jones, and the
Provincial Assistant Scribe E. , E. Comp. Terry Burn, then dealt with a number
of detailed matters affecting Lodges and Chapters and answered a number of
questions from the assembled audience.
This was followed by a session by the Acting Provincial Grand Treasurer, W.
Bro. John Cooper, who talked about a number of financial matters affecting
Lodges and Chapters, which needed to be brought to the attention of Treasurers
and Secretaries/Scribes E.
There was particular interest about the next sessions on the Legal obligations
of Lodges and Chapters as users of Masonic Centres and on the extension of IT
activities in the Province given by W. Bros Peter Burton and Lyndon Jones,
respectively.

W. Bro. Brian Powell, APGM, then gave an overview of the new
Provincial website and the promotion of stories for the Media across the
Province.
Finally, W. Bro. Roger Odd, explained the reasons behind the redevelopment
work to the Library and Museum at Canterbury and the proposed Provincial
Office and EKPCA move to new premises in Whitstable. He showed a number of
graphics relating to the moves and some photographs to show how the project
was currently progressing.
The Provincial Grand Master summed up the morning and thanked all Secretaries
and Scribes E. for all the work they were undertaking on behalf of their
Lodges and Chapters.
Everyone present agreed that it had been a most useful Seminar and looked
forward to next year’s event which is due to take place on Saturday 1 November
2008.
