MACARTNEY LODGE CENTENARY

The members of the Macartney Lodge No.3283 celebrated their Centenary Meeting at Gravesend on 22 May 2008 with nearly 100 brethren present. The Guest of honour was the Provincial Grand Master, Michael Robin Bailey, who was accompanied by the Provincial Executive.

The Worshipful Master, WBro John Abreu handed over the Chair to the Provincial Grand Master who gave a most interesting talk, referring to the history of the Lodge and how the world has changed in the last 100 years, but that the important values of Freemasonry remain unaltered. WBro Leonard Stevens, the Assistant Secretary then gave a most informative talk on the history of the Lodge for the last 100 years and acknowledged WBro Albert Axford's research which became such a fundamental part of the history booklet.
The Lodge then received from the Provincial Grand Master, their Centenary Warrant, which was first read most impressively by the Provincial Grand Secretary, WBro Roger Odd and then presented.
A thought provoking and interesting Oration was given by WBro Ron Gamble, the Provincial Grand Chaplain., which was followed by the presentation of a most generous cheque to the Provincial Grand Master for the Freemasons' Grand Charity.

WBro Len Stevens then presented a marquetry version of the Lodge crest which was most impressive.

A truly impressive Centenary Banquet followed which was very much enjoyed and appreciated by all present. The founding fathers of the Lodge would have been very proud to see that the principles and tenets of Freemasonry, have most certainly been transmitted pure and unpolluted through this the Macartney Lodge No.3283, from generation to generation.
