Masons help Scouts to ‘be prepared’

The 1st Headcorn Scouts Group have moved into a brand new Headquarters with a little help from the Province.

The new meeting hall was officially opened on Sunday 4th July providing a purpose built facility for the 100 strong Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers that use it every week.

The Masonic Province of East Kent donated £1,000 towards the £350,000 project, which has helped to pay for the fixtures and fittings.

The Scout Leader, Mike Brook-Foster MBE said, "After 8 years of effort and hard work we have finally got a building to be proud of. We have already started using it and it is absolutely brilliant".

Mrs Beatrice Pitcher who celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this year was invited to cut the ribbon and to declare the building officially open. Mrs Pitcher who is known to all as Gran has been a life long supporter of the Scouts and has donated over £5,000 to the Headcorn Scout Group over the years through the sale of her home made marmalade.

Group Scout Leader Ann Carroll and Chairman of the project Simon Rickett were on hand to make sure that the opening went off without a ‘hitch’ with over a 100 local people in attendance to witness the event.
