Never one to be Rushed

WBro John Skeer was Initiated in The Athelstan Lodge No. 4024 on the 23rd April 1979. After a mere 31 years, he has just been installed into the Chair of the Lodge. This will come as no surprise to those who have had the pleasure of experiencing John's work over recent years, as he is never one to be rushed.

During John's working life he was involved in many aspects of the agricultural, horticultural and motor trades, at one time working for Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master WBro John Grumbridge. Due to his work commitments he was unable to attend meetings for many years. Lodge Secretary, Bro Alan Curling, recalls him returning around ten years ago, when he thought that John was a visitor.

John soon became involved in the affairs of the Lodge and worked his way through the offices until, in the presence of WBro Paul Murton PrJGW, representing the Provincial Grand Master and both his proposer into the Craft, WBro David C. Ing, PPrAGDC and seconder WBro Geoff B. Athawes, PPrDGReg, he was installed as the Master by WBro Tim Blair, on the 18th January 2010.

Outside of Freemasonry John's other interests are model engineering, heavy haulage, gardening and DIY. However, his passion is classic motorcycles and cars. When younger, he participated in most motor cycle sport. In the past couple of years he has become the proud owner of a new 900cc Triumph Bonneville, Limited Edition, and a 1957 model 50 350cc Norton; not bad for a 72 year old.

During his year in office John intends to organise his own charity motorcycle run. Since his two fellow Masters in Faversham are both active bikers he should have no problem in raising support.
