A Time to Remember

It was a time for reminiscence at the United Industrious Lodge No. 31 on 3rd November 2011 as one of their longest serving members received his certificate of 50 years service in Freemasonry. A 50 year certificate is issued to a member upon his completing fifty years of membership and on this occasion Roger Bickerton was the brother entitled to receive that acknowledgement.

At the age of 21 years, Roger was initiated into the United Industrious Lodge, on the 2nd November 1961. He has always been a committed member and has made a substantial contribution to the life and well being of the lodge. In October 1971, he was installed as the Master and eight years later received his first Provincial appointment, as Past Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies, and with subsequent promotions is now a Past Provincial Deputy Grand Sword Bearer.

In 1983 Roger was appointed as the Secretary of the Lodge a position in which he worked tirelessly for seven years. He served as a Trustee of the Canterbury Masonic Trust Estate for 6 years from 1992 to 1997.

Roger is married to Jenny and has two children, Zoe & Robin. Outside of Freemasonry Roger has also been a very keen and active member of the Rotary club in Canterbury and after 36 years, he became their President in 2002.

The Worshipful Master of the United Industrious Lodge, Brian Walsh presented Roger with his certificate and stated that the brethren of the Lodge were extremely proud of his achievement. A spirited Festive Board followed the meeting , which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
